Part of the Electoral Commission Office at Sapeiman near Accra has been destroyed by fire . The fire erupted in the early hours of Friday, August 14, 2020.
The fire which started at about 2.30 am, consumed almost everything in the said building located at Sapeiman in the Ga West Municipality which also serves as the Regional Office of the election management body.
The cause of the fire outbreak is not yet known. The Commission will work closely with the fire service and other relevant bodies to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fire outbreak.
The building is also used for the storage of old and used items for the Commission according to report. Some of the items destroyed included old ballot boxes, used Form 1As/1cs, and referendum materials as well.
However, the main administration block is not affected.
The fire was said to have been detected by the policeman and the night watchmen on duty at the time.
Fire service personnels have been there to put the fire under control.
